Werdegang / Ausbildung:
Ilsa Hellman (Kuusamo, 1986), born on the border of Finland and Russia, is an independent photographer and a film maker based in Berlin since 2015. Hellman focuses on conceptualised documentary photography and video and currently finds themes of womanhood, identity, adaptation and otherness close to her traveling heart. She believes that via photographic connection we can establish questions, answers and above all, transition.

Her exhibition series GIRLS ON FILM confronts women in traditional settings of visual submission - setting up tense moments in search of triggers for female rebellion. The conceptual series is mapping the limits of current female imagery and studying the empowering energies in between a muse and a maker.
