Cynthia Montier

Werdegang / Ausbildung:
Cynthia Montier is French artist researcher and intervener living in Strasbourg and working in Europe. Her work focuses on gestures of citizen and symbolic appropriation in the public space. She gives great importance to the place of belief and spirituality in vernacular, creative and socially engaged practices. Strongly influenced by popular education, working-class culture and political magic, her approach is based on situated intervention and dialogical performances: conversation as an artistic form, co-creation with actors from different professional backgrounds, transmission of know-how, ritual pedagogies. Art as a collective experience and relationship as a form of intervention are its levers; the whole proceeds as much from a process as from a mediation by which sensory or intuitive knowledge is transformed into a material (furtive gestures, field surveys, negotiated residencies, ritual workshops, narrative visits, exploratory interviews, online documentation systems, editorial devices). Since 2019, Cynthia Montier works with Ophélie Naessens as a duo of artist researchers that explores “esoterico-geography“, she is an artist associated with Syndicat Potentiel in Strasbourg, and co-author of the online residency space «Indisciplines œuvrières » on the platform.
