Statement
Working from the point of view that mine is an exploratory practice, I seek to discover what can be done with different textiles, in which ways they may be used similarly to paint, and ways in which they may supersede paint and other media. I search for materials in local shops and thrift stores, conscious of the fact that individual textiles represent their own specific time and place in history. When combining pieces of material together to create an image, I am dealing, both materially and conceptually, with issues of density and sparsity, fragmentation, and how much information is needed, remembered or perceived within a given context.

Diane Lavoie has exhibited internationally and was recently represented in the 4th annual Textile and Fiber Art Symposium at the Mark Rothko Centre (Daugavpils, Latvia).
