Art discipline:
Innovation, exploration, and collaboration are at the core of bassoonist Olivia Palmer-Baker’s activity. Across the spectrum of her pursuits - from historical performance to experimental improvisation – she wishes to discover new sonic possibilities, enable new musical and performative concepts to crystallise, and to create meaningful artistic experiences.
Important projects / Exhibitions:
As a contemporary performer, Olivia is sought after: She has played with ensembles including the Lucerne Festival Contemporary Orchestra, Schwelbrand Orchestra Berlin, C/O Chamber Orchestra, The Belfast Ensemble, Ulysses Ensemble in collaboration with Ensemble InterContemporain and is due soon to make her debut with Ensemblekollektiv Berlin. She has performed in festivals and venues such as Klangspuren Schwaz, Snape Maltings, MusikFest Berlin, Manifeste Paris, Festival Mixtur, and Donaueschingen Musiktage, was a finalist in the 2019 NonClassical Battle of the Bands with the 4|12 Collective and is a former Featured Young Artist of the Hard Rain Soloist Ensemble.
Alongside modern bassoon, Olivia also performs on period instruments and enjoys exploring early repertoire on dulcians, baroque bassoon and classical bassoon with all sorts of tunings. She is currently studying her master’s degree at the Universität der Künste and is very grateful to be supported by the Countess of Munster Scholarship and the James Caird Travelling Scholarship.
In her spare time, Olivia enjoys procrastinating from her priorities by indulging in film, taking more tea breaks than necessary, and enjoying the outdoors when the sun actually shines here in Berlin.
