TRANSIT is the first performance of the series DEAD TIMES, which focuses on exploring moments that too often go unnoticed in the urban setting of our lives, because they seem passive. These ‘passive’ moments represent movement, rest, stillness and mostly leave us with little to show off for or no end product. These are moments that are separated from a sense of productivity or representation of the self.
DEAD TIMES questions what happens when we disrupt the capitalistic, consumeristic order to unveal the compulsive need we seem to have to fill and be occupied by every moment of our time. In other words, DEAD TIMES aims to make what we consider superfluous moments protagonists and bring them unannounced into an urban setting, to see the reaction of the surroundings.

In this sense, DEAD TIME - TRANSIT focuses on the relationship between movement and time in the urban space. The performance takes place at a crosswalk, where a person - dressed in a white-collar attire - moves extremely slowly, in slow-motion from one side of the road to the other, ignoring the indication of the traffic light and forcing the cars to either wait or move around them. The performance begins with the light turning green and finishes only once the other side is reached.
By slowing down the action, the attention is brought onto the single act of transitioning from point A to point B. This generates a disruption in the shared norms we are used to in urban spaces, that usually rely on hurry.

TRANSIT aims to invite the audience to reflect on the amount of input we take in constantly in the city setting, and to consider the value of quietness and mindfulness.

Biography

Nina Marietti/Abba

Nina Marietti/Abba (they/she) is a performance artist and curator. Treating art as an eternal personal interaction, they work with the role of subjectivity in a game of scales between the microscopic and macroscopic cosmos. Their work aims to challenge human notions of truth and reality by moving from excessive intimacy to ironic quotations from life within the same aesthetic framework. Through her work with various media, Marietti/Abba explores issues of creation and creative action as an intellectual, emotional and visceral response to what we tend to consider as a given "reality".
