The artists are part of a housing community that is acutely threatened by displacement and will not remain silent in the face of the termination of residential and commercial leases in the building:
Participating for the third time at the 48Hours-Neukölln Festival, we would like to put together a selection of works that loudly and visually oppose the capital interests of the owners in order to represent a networked subcultural neighborhood (Schillerkiez). Photographic and video works, performance, culinary art and, above all, a lot of musical noise and sound art will be presented. At the center of the collective exhibition is our basic idea of a cacophonic political-artistic practice that has united Us against the capital-strong owners. The residents of the house come together to bring parts of their different disciplines into the collective exhibition: The acute threat of the displacement of our existences from the neighborhood makes us colorfully present and loud.
The front of the building will be strikingly illuminated from Hermannstrasse with a project mapping show to draw the attention of passers-by to the building and invite them to visit the H48 project space:
The project space H48 is an open space for artistic and solidarity practices, screenings, various political groups, neighborhood networking, as well as events in the context of political-emancipatory education.
The project space offers the opportunity to collectively rethink and reshape the world (or at least the neighborhood) from HERE.
We are convinced that resistance can certainly take on aesthetic and artistically valuable forms. Music in particular is a collective practice of drawing strength and inviting a community to participate in more complex social issues on an emotional level. The short-term attention while the Festival can be a small utopian spark to inspire sustainable exchange and solidarity in the neighborhood.
