Its trash that brings us together: In playful interventions such as performative cleaning, which is documented photographically, and in associative texts, we follow the myth of 'trash' on its many trails. For 48 h Neukölln, we are combining the photographs and texts in an exhibition to create new approaches to Neukölln's garbage. We are Carolin Pflüger and Lara Scheuermann, the stage design duo strolling_____, and the freelance author Henriette Hufgard.
Replaced by something new or no longer suitable for bodies and lives: objects undergo their metamorphosis into garbage when they are discarded, thrown away or left lying around. The decomposition process begins. This is precisely where we want to intervene, document and, through aestheticization, sharpen our perception of what we walk past every day.
A central characteristic of trash is disorder - only chaos turns things into trash in the opinion of many. strolling_____ has already wandered through many Berlin districts and rearranged, layered and stacked supposed trash. As part of 48 h Neukölln, the collective, in cooperation with Henriette Hufgard, is devoting special attention to this district.
In order to pay tribute to the curiosity and diversity of Neukölln's garbage, Henriette Hufgard collages an essay for each intervention. From garbage anecdotes, historical finds and conversations with experts, she puts together a history of Neukölln's trash and shows how trash itself makes history: in landfill archaeology, as a stage design element in world exhibitions and backyards.
