What does it mean for art to be political? Can, or yet, should, it even be - political? What is political, a state of being / doing / thinking? What is art? A reflection of the times, or a guidance for what’s to come? Simply a release? In a city like Berlin, in a neighborhood like Neukölln, both politics and art seem inescapable, and yet, we never truly mean what is meant. Art in Politics in Art is an artistic reflection by artists and those-not-yet-deemed-as-such on what it means to exist in Neukölln in contemporary times, a juxtaposition of thoughts, feelings, and creative interventions. Stemming out of conversations with friends and strangers, connected by the city, it is an immersive room installation not necessarily providing answers, but asking questions. Questions which originated from walks on Sonnenallee, from evenings in Neukölln’s bars, from the written conversations taking place in the bathroom stalls, of different stickers, drawings, and political statements.

Questions as commerce. How to buy one? As art becomes commodified, as so-called political art becomes commercialized, is it still art, is it still political? A small art market in the room asks, reflects, interrupts, negotiates.

Art in Politics in Art consists of an installation, an exhibition of photographs and ceramics within, an art market, and a bar. Come, enjoy, and ask with/of us.

Potentially there might be a discussion round taking place on Saturday, June 28, at 20:00

Biography

Nina Reis

This is a collaboration between many different beings, a group effort. Not all the artists and contributors are confirmed, not all (want to be) known. Furthermore, the idea is also to invite different people to contribute and to engage with these questions, in their own artistic interventions.

Casino for Social Medicine is a part coffee house, part clinic for collectivist experiences, part mutual aid gamble.

Nina Reis would not refer to herself as an artist, but as somebody passionate about art, politics, and the city of Berlin. She connects and creates people and pieces, in hopes of a more honest and communal time to come.
