The exhibition of sculptural works by Simon P. Schrieber in his studio brings together a representative selection of his works, which are characterised by extraordinary formal inventions. The sculptures reveal a careful examination of the various materials, such as marble, wood, bronze and plaster, whose qualities can be rediscovered. The works presented in the studio provide an insight into the sculptor's artistic thought processes and not only document his development as an artist, but also open up new perspectives on his sculptural work. They invite visitors on a journey of discovery that encourages them to reflect on the human being in all its complexity.

Biography

Simon P. Schrieber

The sculptor Simon P. Schrieber (*1953 in Berlin) places the human figure at the centre of his artistic work in monumental marble and wood sculptures, bronzes and plaster casts, seeking idealised and artistically exaggerated images of the human beyond naturalistic depiction. His conception of figures ranges between archaic, arabesque and abstraction. As a former master student of Joachim Schmettau at the Berlin University of the Arts, Schrieber is one of the most prominent representatives of the Berlin School of Sculpture and has developed his own characteristic formal language. His works, which are committed to the representational, are characterised by concentrated volumes, unusual formal inventions and compositions that are as reduced as they are complex.
