Fortune Cookies
Nils Rodekamp
27 June 2025 19:00 – 29 June 2025 19:00
In the series of works Fortune Cookies by Nils Rodekamp, fundamental questions are explored such as: What is normal? What is reality, what is illusion, and what is subjective perception?
In the context of the digital, post-factual era, the themes expand to include: What is real, and what is generated fake? How trustworthy is content on screens? How thoughtlessly are we dealing with digital influences?
For the realisation of the series Fortune Cookies, analogue objects and materials were chosen as a contrast to the digital everyday. Advertising light boxes, neon signs, etc., are symbolising almost nostalgically the subtle and insidious unnoticed influence and even manipulation of attention and thinking through shining distractions.

Biography
Nils Rodekamp
Nils Rodekamp's series of works are primarily about socialisation, conditioning and obsession. About questioning common moral standards. And about revealing the subjective interpretation element in the judgement of representations or situations, based on individual experiences.
The focus of the works is on the conceptual level; the realisation of the subjects, on the other hand, is studiously understated. Existing or arranged details creating inconspicuous, temporary sculptures or scenarios.
The works appear innocuous at the first glance; the conceptual dimensions are usually gradually revealed through decoding and contextualisation.
