Water plays a central role in the evolution from the birth of life to urban transformation, from nature to artificial intelligence. This visual project explores the symbiotic yet at times conflicting relationship between humanity, nature, and technology. Water becomes a metaphor for a journey that moves from a force sustaining life, to the dark world created by technology, and ultimately towards the rebirth of nature.
The large water tank at Fernheizwerk Neukölln (FHW), located in Berlin Neukölln, has been chosen as the carrier of this conceptual narrative. Artist Mahir Duman uses projection mapping techniques to project the evolutionary transformation of water onto the surface of this industrial structure, creating a powerful visual experience that integrates with the space. The projected visuals take the viewer through a flow, beginning with the microscopic molecular nature of water, transitioning to its fluid circulation in the city, moving towards the technological destruction created by human hands, and ultimately culminating in the rebirth of nature.
The architecture of FHW becomes both the physical surface and the conceptual metaphor for this transformation. The contrast between the harsh industrial aesthetic of the structure and the organic nature of water invites the viewer not only into an aesthetic experience but also to reflect on the fragile, mutable, and transformative relationships between humanity, nature, and technology. This project seeks to make the invisible connections between nature and the city visible while redefining water’s existence as both a symbol of destruction and renewal.
