HOME CINEMA, a film installation consisting of handmade animations on film strips and a multi-projection of historical toy projection devices, reconstructed with current technology and placed as image-projecting objects in the virtuality of the digital age, attempts to examine the analogue medium of film in its origins: The immediacy of celluloid film, the primal mechanical essence of cinema and the materiality of the image are played with as an ensemble in time and space. The films, handmade without a camera, unfold unfiltered, direct, haptic, handmade random images that utilise the magic of simple visual mechanical illusion and are created in infinite combinations. Non-repeatable, pixel-free moving paintings are projected onto canvas. The historical film projector is exhibited as an instrument that makes the images resonate.
The film installation will be accompanied by a series of film concerts for analogue animated film and percussion improvisation as well as other surprises in short film format.
As part of the 48 Stunden Neukölln festival, the Animations Atelier opens its doors for a haptic home game. The HOME CINEMA sees itself as a creative meeting place for interdisciplinary artists of different generations to rediscover traditional forms of film art and explore them as a direct audiovisual experiment between truth and perception, a frenzy of forms, colours and rhythm with tactile authenticity in real time.
