Catholic and Orthodox icons

We will showcase 10 icons depicting Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary, and saints such as the righteous Dorothea, Andrew, Alexius, and others. The inspiration for creating these icons was the desire to highlight the shared foundation in the spiritual traditions of Catholicism and Orthodoxy. The icons are painted with tempera on linden and cypress boards. Descriptions of the lives and deeds of the depicted saints will immerse visitors in a spiritual, ascetic, and devotional world. Viewers will clearly see the differences in the artistic styles of Catholic and Orthodox icons.

Three of the icons presented below include the Orthodox icons "The Mandylion (Image Not Made by Hands)" and "Our Lady of Fatima," as well as the Catholic icon "Saint Dorothea." The spiritual values of the two Christian traditions transcend the artistic methods of icon painting and resonate with every viewer. These are the values that unite all: faith, hope, kindness, and love.

Biography

Liliia Humeniuk

In Orthodoxy, it is not customary to associate the artist's name with the icons they create. Therefore, we will limit ourselves to the most significant information from the artist's perspective. She is an Orthodox Ukrainian, 46 years old. She received a blessing to paint icons in Ukraine and learned icon painting in Poland, in the city of Łódź, at the parish of the Roman Catholic Church of Christ the King. She is a parishioner of the Church of St. Olga in Łódź. She has been painting icons for 3 years.
