"Quatschology" is a site-specific performance by FREYAS that combines dance, language, and text to explore the dynamics of “Quatsch” or nonsense. Inspired by Şeyda Kurt’s concept of radical tenderness and her “Alternative Alphabet”, the letter Q serves as the starting point of the artistic research:
"Q for Quatsch. Talking nonsense. Doing nonsense. Watching nonsense."
Nonsense is more than silliness or absurdity; it can be humorous, liberating, and a subversive force that deeply intervenes in social, political, and personal contexts.
Playing with reality and fiction, truth and lies “Quatschology” . Sometimes they are distinct, like separate rooms, and sometimes they overlap and mix. As these dynamic interactions unfold between the performers, you are invited to consider how language and movement merge to create realities. Spoken texts, singing, and choreographed actions blur, creating a charged dialogue -- the constant interplay between words and physicality.
Nonsense is not only used as a humorous relief or an expression of frustration but also as a subversive tool—one that resists and is politically employed. Movements and gestures highlight the power of nonsense, creating a physical experience that combines humorous liberation with a critical examination of power structures. “Quatschology” challenges us to recognize nonsense as a powerful instrument for dialogue, resistance, and reflection. It raises the question: Can nonsense serve as resistance against the patriarchy and as a humorous political weapon?
