Great-grandfather in Uniform

Konstantin Bez, Shlomi Moto Wagner

29 June 2025 17:00–19:00
In every family that spent time in Germany in the 1930s and 1940s, there are references to National Socialism - yet most people know very little about the concrete form of their own family history in the fascist regime of extermination. The actor Konstantin Bez, born in Tübingen in 1990, with the support of singer* Shlomi Moto Wagner (born in Tel Aviv in 1984), invites us to search for buried family memories of National Socialism. In the context of a middle-class family celebration, what is often suppressed or idealised is brought to the table: The role of one's own ancestors during the Second World War. Based on autobiographical research, Bez examines the ideational and material heritage of his Swabian family of origin and uses the stories of his relatives to question the inventory of the German self-narrative of guilt and atonement, remembering and forgetting. He is accompanied by Wagner, whose Jewish-Israeli family history is linked to the Nazi era in a completely different way. Can we try to remember together? And what about the connection to fascism today?
