Call for Ideas: Ideas competition for ‘Perspectives’ 2026

Attention young curators! We are looking for your innovative concepts for our curated exhibition format ‘Perspectives’ as part of 48 Hours Neukölln!

The theme: OUT/SIDE/IN

Borders are not end points, but dynamic spaces in between! OUT/SIDE/IN invites you to explore the complex interconnection between inside and outside. We are looking for conceptually strong ideas that understand identity as a fluid process and dissolve opposites. Your concept should be spatially flexible, as we will later assign you an exciting location in Neukölln!

What we are looking for & offering:

We will select 6–7 forward-looking concepts, which we will realise in July 2026!

Fee: €1,500 for curatorial services (contract for work).

Artist fees: Fees for the participating artists (according to Berlin guidelines).

Support: Budget for materials/transport & support from our festival team.

Platform: A huge stage for your curatorial vision at one of Berlin's biggest art festivals!

Apply now (deadline: 30th November 2025!):

Are you under 35 and have a vision that reinterprets OUT/SIDE/IN? Individuals and collectives from Germany and abroad are welcome!

All information and the complete thematic introduction can be found on our website. Applications can only be submitted via the registration platform:

We look forward to your exciting ‘Perspectives’!

Information on the events

To ensure that our shared experience runs smoothly and that we keep our neighbors' concerns in mind, we would like to draw your attention to an important regulation.

Outdoor events are authorized until 10 p.m., while indoor events may continue until midnight. Unfortunately, we cannot accept responsibility for any noise or disturbance after these times.

We kindly ask all artists and visitors to respect the peace and quiet of Neukölln residents and show consideration. Your understanding and cooperation are crucial to celebrating a harmonious festival together.

Thank you for your support, and enjoy 48 Stunden Neukölln!

Here we go: Welcome to the editorial phase!

The decision has been made and the selection for 2026 has been finalized. We are thrilled with the quality of the submissions on the theme of OUT/SIDE/IN and are very much looking forward to the joint program!

All selected participants have already received a notification from us. Now it's up to you: Please log in to the registration platform to complete and edit your project details for the final online and print program. Pay particular attention to appealing texts and meaningful images so that your project gets the attention it deserves in July.

Important: Please complete your editorial work by March 13, 2026, so that we can start the approval phase in good time and plan the print program.

Registration for Neukölln art venues: The “Open Format”

Are you a gallery, studio, association, or cultural institution with a permanent location in Neukölln? Even though the application period for art projects related to the annual theme has ended, you can still register!

We offer the Open Format for permanent venues in the district. This gives you the opportunity to present your own art program to a large international audience during the festival weekend and become part of the official network of 48 Hours Neukölln.

What is the Open Format? You design your own program in your own space and become part of the festival program.

Who can participate? All permanent art and cultural venues in the Neukölln district.

Registration: Exclusively online via our registration platform.

We look forward to working with you to transform the whole of Neukölln into a place of art!

Approval phase

Behind the scenes, we’re now focusing our efforts on logistics: We’re in close contact with the authorities and the Neukölln district to secure the necessary permits.

To all artists: The submission phase is officially over. A huge thank you to everyone who finalized their projects on time and, once again this year, brought so many new, exciting venues in the neighborhood on board! Your commitment is what makes the festival possible.

Important note regarding the program: Since the deadline has passed, projects that have not yet been fully developed or linked to a venue will unfortunately no longer be able to participate in the 2026 festival. We ask for your understanding that we now need a final set of data for printing and the approval processes.

Editorial phase

We completed our jury phase on the 29th of February 2024 and are now in the editorial phase. During this time, the artists from with accepted projects can create and finalise their texts and images on the registration platform for the 48 Stunden Neukölln programme 2024.

In this step, we also conclude cooperation agreements with the artists in our online form. It is particularly important at this stage to specify the necessary permissions. If a project takes place in a public area, for example, you will need a road or green space licence. A permit is also required for the use of light sources and sound.

The deadline for the editing phase is 31.03.2024.
