On Friday evening, artist Sophia Süßmilch and Die Buchkönigin invite you to a series of short performances, transforming the bookshop into a space for fun, boisterous, shared experiences of physicality and temporary togetherness. Joining them are artist Moritz Frei, who last year presented his artificially generated visual spaces “Fountains” in the bookshop, and Collektif Blitzbereit, known for their irreverent yet sensitive, funny and sad, poetic and iconic interventions that place the female body at the centre. Also taking part: Lee Everett Thieler, Daniel Hopp and Julie Bender Herdina. On Saturday and Sunday, the bookshop will be showing CRAPPY CREEPY CREATURES: paintings by Sophia Süßmilch.
Biography
Sophia Süßmilch, Moritz Frei, Collektif Blitzbereit, Lee Everett Thieler, Daniel Hopp, Julie Bender Herdina
In her multimedia works and performances, the artist Sophia Süßmilch (*1983) explores the female body and its rebellion against prevailing social norms. She studied sculpture at the Academy in Munich and painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. For her, the naked body is both a medium and a recurring motif, and although she stands in a decades-long tradition of female body performance — from Carolee Schneemann to Yoko Ono and Marina Abramović — she still touches upon a taboo subject. Since 2018, she has been exhibiting her work in solo and international group exhibitions in museums and galleries.
