The mask, every human action implies it and has the capacity to reveal by hiding, what the human being interrogates throughout history: personal, cultural and social. It's the magic of being the same and different at the same time.

The mask as a barrier, a border, but also as a threshold that enables communication between different areas, between different cultures.
But also the masks that make it possible to create space for self-expression.

I like to think that with the masks you build bridges between different worlds and bring them in contact with each other.

Biography

MUTA

I am Teresa Gualtieri, a contemporary urban artisan, mother and migrant. In my studio-workshop project MUTA I bring together traditional practices with urban life. I come from an old Italian artisan family and believe that fabrics carry energy, tell stories and can be given a new life through artisanal upcycling. Mutare, which means transformation and change, is therefore the basis for my almost 20 years of practice in craft and art education projects that focus on sustainability and an integral, inclusive, diverse understanding of our living environments. I want to give back a worthy existence to what is thrown away, what remains unnoticed.
