Anatomy of the Hole: A Queer Dialogue

Leander von Thien, András Tibor Vizi

Barrierefreier Zugang
27 June 2025 19:00 – 29 June 2025 19:00
The exhibition explores the hole as a physical, symbolic, and social motif, focusing on two works that examine it as a space of intimacy and desire, a site of shame and vulnerability, and a threshold between anonymity and visibility.

By juxtaposing András Vizi’s and Leander von Thien’s work, a dialog emerges about queer bodies, spaces, and their social coding. The hole is presented not only as a spatial form but also as a metaphorical void, prompting reflection on corporeality, relationships, and power structures.
The exhibition interrogates how bodies, spaces, and norms shape our understanding of desire, shame, and identity. What do we truly see when we look—and what remains concealed? In this tension between visibility and invisibility, spaces for dialog, self-reflection, and queer liberation are revealed.

Biography

Leander von Thien, András Tibor Vizi

Leander von Thien (*1994) is a white cis male queer photographer based in Berlin. Growing up in the countryside of northern Germany with rigid images of masculinity and
confronted with more overt and subtle homophobia he recognizes that bodies are inherently political - a trace that lead to the understanding of bodies as a possibility of liberation.
András Tibor Vizi (b. 1990, Budapest, Hungary) holds an MA in photography from the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design, Budapest. Memory, sexuality, and the relationship of the human body and mind are central to his interests. He often complements his photographs with scenography and light installations of his own design.
