5 July 2026 15:00–17:00
The writing collective MischMash will explore the stories about those who guard the borders of socially accepted narratives and behaviour. The writers will create and perform characters who dare challenge those narratives and actions. The authors are going to meld with and impersonate those people who seem questionable and debatable. It will be an experience of the likewise fuzzy space between a reading, a performance and a play.
But who are these border guards?
We will explore two apparently opposing standpoints in space. One marks the safety of the acceptable common sense, the other is beyond the border of social approval. Between those two points we find ourselves in a fuzzy place of likely transgressions, potential conflicts and countless possible interpretations. Every behavior, every interaction in this fuzzy space will activate a whole circus of individuals, each equipped with a particular perspective and the equity of an opinion.

This is where anticipation and projections are cast forward and actions are being judged. Some are adamantly upholding principles others are flexible and relaxed.

So who should be legitimately patrolling these commonsensical borders? And who are the tresspassers and their stories? Especially when it is like that: „We did not cross the line. The line crossed us!”. Behold the upturning of the inside to the outside and vice versa. Hell — here “I see nothing but an eternally devouring and ruminating monster” (Goethe, Die Leiden des jungen Werther)

Literature that discusses transgressions and tests borders by presenting those characters, who either don't care about boundaries or are too eager to protect them.

Rejecting silos, MischMash works across disciplines. By inviting artists from the worlds of visual art, video, dance, performance, and music, we have crafted, designed and presented over 15 unique formats that bridge the gap between the page and the stage.
