The Hobrechtstraße 31 studio house has existed for 26 years, providing space for around 30 artists to work and collaborate. It is an integral part of Neukölln’s cultural life and one of the oldest houses in Berlin’s studio program. Many in the neighborhood know it as an open place for art and exchange. Now, according to a Senate decision, it is to be permanently removed from the studio rental program in 2026. This means all resident artists will lose their workspaces—permanently, as there is virtually no affordable studio space left in Berlin. This threatens not only individual livelihoods but also the city’s cultural diversity.
