In a world where social structures seem firmly established, Milieu Exchange challenges our perception of social order and economic reality. The painting (50 x 60 cm, acrylic on canvas) by Ágnes Molnár plays with familiar role models and reverses them: A wealthy man sits on the ground with a money bowl in front of him, while an elderly woman from a precarious background gives him a coin.
Through this unsettling inversion, the artwork invites viewers to rethink common notions of wealth, poverty, and social dynamics. Is the man truly in need—or is he benefiting from a system that rewards him while others are forced to give more and more? The scene becomes a metaphor for economic processes that shift wealth upward, turning the stillness of one into the movement of another.
With Milieu Exchange, Ágnes Molnár creates a space for reflection on social inequalities—posing the question: What happens when we abandon our usual ways of perceiving the world?

Biography
Ágnes Molnár
Ágnes Molnár, born 1991 in Hungary, focuses on social themes in her work, with a particular interest in consumption, individualization, inequality, and perception. She creates contrasts in her paintings to emphasize social realities, building a bridge between the duality of our existence—the abstract world of social phenomena and our everyday reality. By everyday reality, she refers to the dimension of what we see, do, and the outcomes of our decisions. The abstract world of social phenomena, on the other hand, encompasses the underlying dimensions of daily life, such as cultural values, prejudices, individualization, and consumer behavior, which shape and govern our everyday existence.
