3 July 2026 19:00–21:00
As part of 48h Neukölln, Mpower e.V. invites you to an evening of short film screenings and conversations on the making of the films. As a self-organized feminist collective, Mpower creates spaces for exchange, empowerment, and creative expression.

Come by and meet the team and the young filmmakers in the Chandra Mohanty Room at Berlin Global Village.

We’ll be screening five short films created during project weeks as part of our empowerment-focused work with young girls* of color. The films tell personal, creative, and socially critical stories from the perspectives of the young filmmakers...

“A Room of My Own” (documentary, approx. 10 min)
A documentary film about the desire for personal space, self-determination, and places of refuge in the daily lives of young girls* with refugee backgrounds.

“Address Not Found” (fiction, approx. 4 min) A fictional experimental short film about a girl who finds herself lost in a foreign world, whose language she does not speak and whose surroundings are unfamiliar to her. The film captures moments of disorientation, alienation, and the possibility of connection—empathy and solidarity.

“Words to Her” (experimental, approx. 4 min). An experimental short film created as part of Mpower’s exchange project in collaboration with Stellar Quines and the Glasgow Women’s Library. Shaped by encounters, artistic exchange, and transnational solidarity, the film brings together the voices, experiences, and perspectives of young girls* of Color from Berlin and Glasgow. Funded by the Culture Bridge Programme and the Fonds Soziokultur.

We also celebrate the completion of our collaborative project “Story.Macht.Geschichte” with filmArche e.V. and present two additional short films developed in workshops with teenage girls* of Color, critically engaging with Artificial Intelligence (AI), representation, and digital power structures. The project was funded by the Berliner Projektfonds Kulturelle Bildung.
