'No Matter What' is a deeply personal experimental short film project that delves into the intricacies of queer life and the transformative power of performance. This film aims to challenge conventional narratives and provide a platform where reality and imagination are intertwined. By blending documentary and experimental cinema elements, it offers a perspective on the intersection of identity, art, and activism. Performer explores significant places in Neukölln, where they have lived for a long time, revisiting locations that hold important memories for them. As they embark on these journeys into the past, they utilize the bridge movement, a technique that influences them as a performance artist, serving as a portal to access these memories. The artist anonymizes their body and transcends traditional sexual and gendered representations.
They start by visiting the remains of kebab imbiss in their neighborhood that was burnt down in a racist attack. Then, they delve into a range of emotions—happiness, sadness, tears, love, heartbreak, intoxication, excitement, conflict, and reconciliation—all experienced in the park (Hasenheide). Afterward, they move to a symbolic cemetery, where they let go of a past phase of life they thought was lost and embrace a new beginning. Following this rebirth, the performer visits Oranienplatz, a site steeped in resistance and history. Finally, they return to their apartment, a space that sometimes feels like home but is also tinged with uncertainty. Their desire to create a sense of belonging in this place is challenged by the broader context of the country they reside in, a complex journey of identity and self-discovery.
