During the festival 48 Stunden Neukölln, we open the cultural and community garden ArtenGarten to the neighborhood. The garden is understood as an open space of experience where art, environmental education, music, and collective practice come together.

We invite visitors to take part in workshops and to enjoy live music in a relaxed atmosphere in the evening. The garden thus becomes a space for encounter, exchange, and shared creative experience.

Visitors can look forward to a diverse program for children, families, and adults: an interactive treasure hunt invites playful exploration of the garden; a collective drawing workshop works with brushes made from organic garden materials; during Eco-Writing, participants enter into a poetic dialogue with nature; and in the artistic workshop Grüne Zeit, backpacks and tote bags are creatively designed using natural forms and found objects collected in the garden.

The evening will wind down with acoustic and electronic sounds and a shared gathering around the campfire.

The annual theme OUT/SIDE/IN becomes tangible within the context of the garden. Gardening processes demonstrate how inside and outside intertwine: plants grow from the interior of the earth outward; fruits ripen hidden and are brought outward at the right moment. Care, time, and attention make growth possible. Inside and outside appear not as opposites, but as interconnected states.

Transferred to the social sphere, we understand ArtenGarten as a threshold space between private and public, nature and city, individual experience and community. What emerges within a protected setting—conversations, relationships, shared activities—becomes visible and effective outwardly. Community reveals itself not as a fixed form, but as an ongoing, open process.

Most of the artists are part of the ArtenGarten collective, which consists of several local initiatives as well as artists and cultural professionals with diverse professional and cultural backgrounds.

The collective was founded in 2023 during the development of the previously abandoned garden into a place where art, education, ecology, and community come together.

Some of the artists are members of Kulturschafft e.V., which serves as the sponsoring organization of ArtenGarten. In addition to the general promotion of art and culture, the association places great value on reaching people who have limited access to cultural offerings and operates not only within cultural institutions but also in public and non-artistic spaces.
