Benjamin Rubloff's paintings are based on traces found on the streets of the city. He meticulously transcribes scrawls of graffiti and torn posters in a tromp l’oiel manner, creating paintings that slide between abstraction and figuration. The work is rooted in an exploration of the city’s history and politics, forming an alternative mapping of the city. The paintings invite the viewer to linger, and become attentive to the overlooked surfaces of our everyday experience of the city.
