This exhibition presents two series of works on paper that explore concepts of shape, identity, and symbolism, both in the present and in the context of the past.
AVATAR reflects the hype surrounding digital identities, which emerge in virtual spaces and often mirror our desires, fantasies, and self-images. As digital representations, avatars serve as projection surfaces for emotions such as joy, pride, or dissatisfaction, which can be both real and simulated. These digital facades reflect complex human experiences and offer the potential to either empower or alienate us.
ANCIENT WORDING is inspired by geometric patterns and ornaments that hold significance in many ancient cultures. The use of basic shapes such as squares, triangles, and rhombuses in ancient visual languages has led to impressive expressions of human creativity. Their simplicity and clarity explain the enduring fascination with these universal forms. The playful exploration and constant reconfiguration of these elements offer endless compositional possibilities.

Dierkes' abstract works are characterised by a clear structure and precise compositions. Her works explore the interaction of shapes, lines, ornamental drawings and empty space. They strike a balance between calm and dynamism as well as statics and rhythm. Contrasts of colour and light and dark as well as the targeted use of graphite, coloured pencil and acrylic create haptically appealing surfaces - from translucent to shimmering to matt.
