How and where can you find peace and quiet in a turbulent city like Berlin? To inner peace, to be precise.
The non-places already mentioned by Marc Augé are ideal for this: mostly monofunctionally used spaces that look the same, characterized by desolation and loneliness. Seen in this light, the IICC is almost a non-place, as despite being saved from demolition, it has almost no function at all. Apart from the fact that, despite or precisely because of the roaring, circling avalanches of cars, no living creature voluntarily lingers there any more, letting the sun shimmer in it quite confidently. Seen in this light, it offers the best conditions for sunlit introspection and letting your thoughts run free.
The result is the staged series Contenance, in which the artist devotes himself to his own inner life in the midst of the roar - a breather from the gurgling stream of thoughts, so to speak.
