What is urban silence? Noises generated directly by people and animals are part of the essence of an urban environment and therefore do not disturb the urban silence. What disturbs the urban silence is unnecessary traffic noise caused by loud vehicles. Even in the middle of the neighborhoods, such as Schillerkiez, there are frequent disruptions to the peace and quiet caused by vehicles. >>Herrfuhrtplatz (60min)<< visually shows such disturbances to the urban silence.

>>Herrfuhrtplatz (60min)<< undertakes several transformations of the urban space around Herrfuhrtplatz. From the symmetrical street pattern designed to last forever, a transient object made of sugar and wool emerges, which will therefore be located inside rather than outside. The sides of the object each show the street plan around Herrfuhrtplatz. Four streets lead to Herrfuhrtplatz, hence the four sides of the object. At the four junctions, the street noise was recorded simultaneously for 60 minutes. Noise; or rather the interruption of the silence. The sound waves of the noise are transformed into light waves. Each side of the object is illuminated by a lamp. The lamps are each linked to the recorded noise signal from the street junctions. If a vehicle disturbs the silence at the respective position, the light goes out for the duration of the noise. For example, if a vehicle drives in a circle around Herrfuhrtplatz, this can be seen as the light on the object goes out one by one.

The light object will be visible in the shop window of the pharmacy on Herrfuhrtplatz throughout the festival, especially at night.
