Rejective Space is a video and sound installation that invites you into an abstract architectural landscape. The work refers to the current housing crisis in Berlin and the low availability of affordable housing, where investment groups and commercial properties seem to be dominating the housing market.
As vacancy and uninhabitable space create a silence in our urban environment, the work is an experiment to depict the housing shortage through a video and sound installation and to explore urban space from a new perspective. A digitally generated soundscape invites the viewer to experience architecture as a complex sensory phenomenon that goes beyond visual perception and to understand sound as another dimension of architecture.
The work creates its own alienated psychological space and establishes a connection between architectural space and emotional space, in which buildings appear as dysfunctional objects rather than active living spaces.
Furthermore, the installation plays with the Pepper's Ghost effect to emphasise the illusion of detached architectural elements floating in space, depicting an urban landscape that threatens to dissolve into a void.
