Silence between the Notes - Piano Session

Tomke

28 June 2024 22:00–23:00
The musician Tomke often finds herself caught up in the contrasts of Berlin - on the one hand, the diversity of the big city is a source of new experiences, provides inspiration and offers space for creativity, while on the other hand, its background noise and hectic pace can be exhausting and overwhelming. Personal moments of silence are important in order to calm down and process impressions. The artist finds these above all when listening to music, composing or making music, alone or with others. For the festival, Tomke wants to share her world with her listeners and plays her own compositions on the piano - probably her most personal way of expressing herself musically. Tomke's pieces are purely instrumental, often very melodic and meditative, sometimes also somewhat abstract. If you want, you can let your mind wander and enjoy the moment. Tomke's musical inspiration comes from contemporary artists with neoclassical influences such as Ólafur Arnalds, Nils Frahm or Hania Rani, but also from numerous musicians from the pop and indie scene.

Note: A second concert will take place at 7 pm in the Passage im Vorwerck.

Biography

Tomke

The Berlin multi-instrumentalist Tomke has been surrounded by music since her childhood - her musical roots lie in classical music, where she received lessons on the flute at a young age and took singing classes later. After years of experience in various music projects (including choirs, orchestras and bands), she began to teach herself to play the piano. Tomke was inspired by influences from neoclassical and pop music, among others. For the musician, the instrument is both a balance to everyday life and a place of creative work, and she can no longer imagine her life without it. A few years ago, Tomke also added the bass to her musical repertoire and today also plays bass in the band of Berlin artist Olivia Void.
