"about all dimensions" is a series of works, in which Margarita Wenzel deals with the demolition of the first prefabricated building in Halle-Silberhöhe in 2001. The ambiguous symbolism of failure, which manifests itself in the history of the building, illustrates the unresolved structural break of the post-reunification period and shows how economic rationalization has inscribed itself in the satellite towns of the GDR, their architecture, and their inhabitants.
By translating all measurements from the archived floor plans into musical notation using a digital program, Wenzel endeavors to capture the resonance left by the apartment block in the city and the collective memory. The notation was played on the grand piano by Nadine Klusacsek, technically compressed, and recorded onto vinyl.
The project was funded by the Art Foundation of the State of Saxony-Anhalt and the Kloster Bergesche Foundation.
