In a world characterized by movement and noise, people long for moments of peace and reflection. "Urbane Stille" offers the opportunity to pause and concentrate on the essentials. In this context, I would like to present the word "Love" as a central element.

Seven canvases lined up in a row, covered with paint runners dipped in different shades of brown, represent a large fragment of a possible wooden fence. Unlike walls, wooden fences are characterized by the temporary and monetarily bearable, and are easy to move and replace. As an artifact, however, the imaginary fence places the same high demands on preservation that the wall or masonry already bear in the preliminary consideration of implementation. Freed from this context, the canvases positioned in the room seem like a protection against possible adversity and yet they themselves have long been exposed to external forces. A large text graffiti develops from orthogonal runners of a drip painting.

YOU TO is part of a series of works that can be installed free-standing in the room or on the wall. When creating the lettering, it was important to find strong and emotional words; words that have both positive and negative connotations, such as LOVE, FUCK, LIVE or HOPE. "Love" is a multi-layered word that goes far beyond romantic relationships. It is a fundamental need that connects all people and enriches our world. The word "love" can be translated into both "love" and "sex". It is about two principles according to which everything can be connected in and with love or without it, i.e. the universal themes of human existence.

Biography

Manuela Fersen

The narrowing of a color space and the suggestion of materiality often play a central role in Manuela Fersen's pictorial works. She examines the concept of "identity", of objects as well as people, and does not exclude herself. Influenced by her surroundings, she reacts to current themes, which she views and implements in the context of her own history. Contradictions and provocations run through her works and criticize the zeitgeist, while at the same time she integrates the everyday, the banal and the kitschy into this approach.

Manuela Fersen studied Fine Arts at the Braunschweig University of Art and Visual Communication at the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences. She lives and works in Bad Wonder.
