Interzona

This project will blend experimental electronic music, spoken word and Poetry for a 45 minute performance. The poetry inhabits borders between the human and the non-human forms, where voice, machine, and environment intersect, the poems linger in thresholds, spaces of permeability where language dissolves and recomposes itself through sound. Identity and meaning emerge here as fluid processes, shaped by resonance, interference, and becoming. The music will consist of a blend of improvised sounds and pre-recorded samples played back on a modular synth, Buchla and live sampling machines. The machines work in concert to create an ambient interactive soundtrack. As the soundscapes create an atmosphere it also interacts with the words and voice of Cynthia's poetry. In this way the music works to probe the meaning beyond the definitions of the words themselves. This artistic project tears down the boundaries between text and music as both performers work together to explore the meaning beyond--a meaning that cannot be expressed with only words or music.
