The Shapes of Sugar is both a personal journey and a visual inquiry into colonial heritage, ancestral memory, and the construction of identity through practice. The artist, who is Franco-Mauritian, grew up primarily within her French family and long felt disconnected from her Mauritian roots.
It was through working with sugar, exploring its materiality and sculptural possibilities, that she began to rediscover this part of her heritage. What began as a technical and artistic exploration gradually became a way to reconnect with Mauritius: its history, its culture, and the parts of her identity that had once felt distant.

Ich bin eine franco-mauritische Food-Designerin und arbeite intuitiv mit essbaren Materialien, um Verbindung zu schaffen, zu teilen und Verletzlichkeit mit anderen zuzulassen. Für mich ist Essen eine Sprache, die Grenzen überschreitet, ein universelles Medium, durch das wir tiefe Verbindungen erfahren können.
In der Erforschung meiner Identität als Künstlerin und Designerin gehe ich den tieferen Bedeutungen von Essen nach und nutze Zucker als Medium, um meine mauritischen Wurzeln zu erkunden. Auf diese Weise entstehen fragile, kostbare Artefakte, die die zarte Schönheit der Vergänglichkeit feiern.
