In the midst of the constant change between public noises on the busy streets and the private silence of the houses in the big city, the doorbell becomes the connection between these sound worlds. It hasn't worked in my house for many years and all the buttons are completely useless. Only the intercom system allows fleeting contact with the outside world if you estimate the right moment when a person is at the door.
For 48h Neukölln I am working with exactly this object. Right next to the noisy Karl-Marx-Straße there are receivers on the wall of a building that work in the opposite direction: no listening from inside to outside, but from outside to inside, into the seemingly quiet building. The bell doesn't work, call me when you get there.
