MY BODY IS_An Archive is an exploration of transformation and the construction of creature-hood through the migrant body.
In September 2024 during Berlin Art Week, MY BODY IS_ took place as a series of installations and performances at MaHalla, with performer and artist Ana Barros, photographer and performance artist Zarahlena, embodied vocal practitioner Winter | Geamhradh, graffiti artist and choreographer Kadir Memis together with media artist GESO, and artist Harshini J. Karunaratne. These multidisciplinary and performance artists examined the body as a site of discourse where identity is in flux, and where migration is not only a physical transgression of borders but an embodied act that is continuously contested. Each performer was invited to answer the prompt, MY BODY IS_, and to freely express their creature-hood.
Through striking photos, video, and a reprise of performances, MY BODY IS_An Archive is a celebration of labour, identity, and memory. We invite you to reflect with us, and to fill in the blank: MY BODY IS___.
Featuring photography/video by vrohdo, Isabelle Schmitz, Stefano Canavese, Sidney Mandros, and Scott Prunty.
