When I was There: book release, reading, exhibition

benjamin rubloff

29 June 2024 17:00–22:00
"WHEN I WAS THERE," is the recent publication by the Berlin-based artist, Benjamin Rubloff. The event will be an exhibition and reading/ book-release in the artist's studio.

Rubloff's recent work investigates the idea of the trace in the city. The artist makes slow oil paintings that are based on the speedy traces of graffiti that he finds in the city. These paintings then initiate an exploration of the sites where they were found. Using site photographs and text, the artist investigates the public and private histories at work in these everyday places. The artist will host a reading from the book and talk about the project and his process.

The studio will be open from 17-22h on Saturday only. The reading will take place at 19h. More information is available at www.benjaminrubloff.com and on instagram at: @rubloffbenjamin

Biography

benjamin rubloff

The artistic practice of Benjamin Rubloff (*1975, New York) is concerned with the experience of place. He began his career as a landscape painter, working conceptually within the genre to explore how political and ideological themes are inscribed in the landscape. This interest led him to Cornell University's interdisciplinary MFA program (2012), where he studied art and landscape and urban history. Rubloff is a recent recipient of a 2023 Pollock-Krasner Fellowship in Painting. Rubloff's work has been featured in Elephant Magazine and Marc Valli's book, A Brush with the Real: Figurative Painting Today. His recent publication, WHEN I WAS THERE, is being published by Kettler this Spring. His studio is located in Ossastraße, Berlin-Neukölln.
