Echo

In our group exhibition "Echo", we - 13 photographers from the Ostkreuz School of Photography in the 5th and 6th semester - took an in-depth look at urban space over an extended period of time and focused on its various aspects and protagonists.

The chosen exhibition title "Echo" reflects our approach of interacting in a dialogue with the urban space, its protagonists and you, the viewers.

With "Urban Silence", the theme of this year's 48 Stunden Neukölln festival, we associate an intermediate state of silence and noise. A form of intimacy, of perceiving with all the senses what is otherwise not perceived.

Since we are acting in the realm of the visual, photographic stillness is thus like an optical (magnifying) magnification of a perceived moment: be it the empathetic gaze of a stranger in the middle of the hustle and bustle, the fleeting play of light on a familiar street or the long-term construction site on your own doorstep.

We have found motifs in the spaces between silence and noise, isolation and community. Thematically, our works focus on central aspects of urban (community) life, from youth to old age, from hotspots to remote places on the outskirts of the city.

The exhibition invites visitors to explore the theme of "Urban Silence" individually or interactively as a group. What does "urban silence" mean to you personally? Where do you find silence in your everyday life? How do you experience "in-between moments" during the day?
