BORDERS

Ibalú Alba

4 July 2026 18:30–19:25
FRONTERAS is a participatory and intimate performance that explores the border, in both its structural and interpersonal aspects, and the myriad of profound ways in which it shapes our lived-experience. Using a combination of elements that are both local and foreign, familiar and strange, and which suggest movement, exchange, incorporation, appropriation, and distancing, the performance invites the audience to reflect on their own positioning, as well as the everyday bordering practices we all engage in. Ultimately the performance seeks not only to highlight how we each negotiate the border in different moments and what are the implications of this, but also to open a space of encounter where boundaries can blur and meanings can shift, sparking new connections.

Biography

Ibalú Alba

Ibalú Alba is a performance and installation artist whose work explores themes of displacement and migration, grief and mourning, memory and exile. Born in Bolivia, she emigrated with her family to the United States at fourteen years old where she concluded her formal education, obtaining a bachelor's degree in sociology and a Master’s in Anthropology and Social Change. Soon after this, she moved to Europe and was awarded a scholarship to study in the sculpture department at the Rome University of Fine Arts. She attended the program for one year before settling in Berlin to focus on her studio practice. Her works employ a rich visual language wherein nostalgia, radical tenderness, and rituality often intermingle to evoke an exilic space of personal and collective transformation.
