Hear and Heaven

Oliwia Meiser, Clara Baesecke

30 June 2024 16:00–17:00
Is silence a state of nature? No, there is not always quietness in nature, nor is silence impossible in the hustle and bustle of the city. However, one must actively seek or consciously generate it. Music and silence may initially seem opposed to each other. Yet, they are mutually dependent. Music arises from silence, and silence is only perceived thanks to sounds and noises. Nevertheless, silence is so much more than the mere absence of noise. There are different qualities of silence. Silence compels us to listen, sharpens our attention, and forms the basis for experiencing and appreciating the delicate and sensitive. It creates focus. That is what the c/o duo aims to use for themselves and their work. The two musicians create sound from silence and let silence resound. Silence serves as the interface between tranquility and noise. They listen to the calm before the storm and play with the storm after the calm. And they celebrate both equally: composed silence and boisterous compositions. With "Hear and Heaven", Oliwia Meiser and Clara Baesecke present a program full of contrasts, using their instruments and voices: Contrasts in terms of origin, execution, and temperament. It's a listening invitation to a small heaven amidst the urban chaos.
