The “Memorial to Nazi Forced Labour for the Protestant Church” was opened in September 2023. The remains of the former labour camp in Berlin-Neukölln have since been protected as an archaeological monument. The memorial is open daily.

It commemorates a camp where, from 1942 onwards, around 100 forced labour workers were made to work for 42 Berlin church parishes, primarily in cemeteries. The hard labour was marked by hunger and disease. Many of the people discriminated against as “Eastern workers” came from Ukraine and Russia, including minors.

The church ran the camp itself. The memorial therefore sees itself as a place of remembrance of the perpetrators and an expression of the responsibility assumed. An association organises guided tours and events for educational purposes.
