Mapping the Edges

“Mapping the Edges” explores the interplay between inside and outside in urban space. In my black-and-white acrylic works, created in a collage-like style, fragments of the city—its architecture, graffiti, animals, and visual traces of everyday life—merge into multilayered pictorial spaces.
The works do not understand the city as a clear, ordered structure, but rather as a network of overlaps, permeabilities, and contradictions. Berlin, as the place of my daily experience, serves as the starting point: a space in which personal perception, cultural inscriptions, and visual impulses continuously intertwine.
In the spirit of the festival theme OUT/SIDE/IN, I engage with the fluid boundaries of urban identity. In my images, the boundary does not appear as a dividing line, but as a zone of movement—a liminal space in which inside and outside permeate one another. The fragmentary structure of the works makes this entanglement visible: places become moods, external impressions turn into inner layers, and urban surfaces transform into psychological landscapes.
The project invites visitors to view the city from a different perspective and to perceive the subtle transitions in which perception, belonging, and experience are constantly renegotiated.

Biography
Simon Salzig
Simon Salzig, born in Cologne in 1995, lives and works in Berlin. He discovered his passion for drawing and painting at an early age, which over the years developed into an independent artistic practice. After studying photography, he found in painting a direct and intuitive means of expression that allows him to connect emotion, observation, and spatial perception. Berlin’s urban environment shapes his artistic identity, as does his sensitivity to structure, contrast, and atmosphere.
