How does the body absorb its environment, and how does it remember the sights and sounds it encounters? For 48 Hours Neukölln, Miranda Holmes and Juan Ledesma will present works at Vorfluter Projektraum that explore how social and physical interactions have an effect on the body in the show, Now Sounds.

Miranda Holmes embraces expansive notions of identity and intimacy in her paintings, drawings, and installations. Her work speculates on how we shape one another and the places we inhabit through spaces of overlap. Each work attends to thresholds of interaction that mark a relationship in flux. Subjects and objects slip and seep into one another, destabilizing the Self/Other binary for a fluid vision of experience. The show underlines painting as a site for textures of intimacy to spark, wrestle, grow, or diminish within a single moment.

During 48 Hours Neukölln, Holmes has invited artist Juan Ledesma, currently living in Miami, Florida, to contribute a sound piece to the exhibition. Having never set foot in Berlin, Ledesma created a composition that interlaces Holmes’ field recordings from the city with moments of silence and percussive instrumentation from his own urban influence of Miami.

The exhibition will be accompanied by an experimental drawing workshop hosted by Miranda Holmes and is open to the public. During the workshop, participants will explore the connection between drawing, touch, and body awareness. The workshop will consist of both solo and collaborative exercises and end with a group reflection of the work. Participants will also listen and respond to Juan Ledesma’s soundscape while drawing.

Two hour-long workshops (Saturday, June 29, starting at 16.00 and 17.00) will take place with 12 participants each. All materials provided. No previous drawing experience required. Please contact the artist to reserve a spot: miranda.holmes14@gmail.com.

The gallery will host a closing exhibition party on Sunday June 30 from 18.00-20.00.
