You think Neukölln is too loud, too quiet, too dirty and too tidy? We are happy to take on any of your complaints to improve the quality of life in your district.

During the calendar weekend KWE26, measures for urban conflict care will be carried out in Neukölln's public spaces. Our technicians with special equipment and grey warning suits will be deployed throughout the district to implement innovative and aggression-reducing principles of cleanliness in the urban soundscape and public realm.

Our technology is based on the principle of 'sharawadgi', which has been used in Japan for centuries and is applied to both acoustics and the maintainance of outdoor areas. Our specialists will carry out fine cleaning measures and treat noise with artificial silence and natural sounds. Simultaneously, background noise and synthetic disorder are skilfully integrated into the cityscape at quiet locations. Our aim is to not unilaterally resolve the conflict-laden balance of mutual disorder and its organising disruption - the conflict between peace and noise - which has grown over decades, but to neutralise it sustainably.

Biography

SONDER (Peter Behrbohm & Anton Steenbock)

SONDER is an amoeba-like enterprise that offers tools for conflict care in public spaces and discourses. Anton Steenbock and Peter Behrbohm create tools and spaces for negotiation in order to bring to light to questionable developments and to reveal them in unexpected situations. In 2018, SONDER deployed a moving mountain to monitor everyday life in Thuringia, since 2021 SONDER has been operating an equestrian statue with a campfire at Berlin's Alexanderplatz and has just set up the tech start-up Total.Earth wich aims to take capitalism off the market. Last year SONDER started offering "Urban Cosmetics" in Stuttgart, a public cleaning service that is the first to use a combination of fine cleaning measures and aggression-reducing vandalism replicas.
