Silent Tones

The photo group "das Kollektiv" is showing a group exhibition for the 2024 festival that brings together five photographic positions on the festival theme of "Urban Stille":

Inga Alice Lauenroth's "Randstücke" are created on the fringes of events in the city. She photographs people interacting with the urban space and its diverse events. Observationally, she poses the question of cause and effect, the role of the individual in the fabric of a big city and, ultimately, of her own acting self.

Having grown up in a working-class city that experienced decline after an upswing in Germany's economic miracle, Jörg Steinbach sets out in search of traces of his own past and captures the silence of the places he is familiar with, places that used to be alive.

In the Praga district of Warsaw, numerous shrines with statues of the Madonna were erected in the backyards of apartment blocks during the German occupation. At a threatening time, the population retreated into the private sphere and the backyard became a place of peace and contemplation. Franca Wohlt's documentary photographs show a variety of views of these courtyards and shrines.

In "Was ich nicht sehe, gibt es nicht", Jan Bechberger traces the longing for a personal moment of silence and tranquillity and takes his camera out into the city and away from the lethargy. Corona crisis, war of aggression against Ukraine, inflation crisis, energy crisis, climate crisis. On walks in the urban environment, he finds images that reflect the mood of many people.
