4 July 2026 21:00–21:30
“The New Old” is an installative performance navigating between analogue and digital eras through oscilloscope, slide projection and live camera transmissions. Blending historical and technological timelines, it reflects on exploration from 15th century seafarers to modern astronauts and invites audiences to question where we are heading.
Biography
Kathleen Kunath, Zé de Paiva, Guilherme Morais
Zé de Paiva, Kathleen Kunath, and Guilherme Morais founded Syntax Schwarz in 2019 with the aim of combining visual arts, performance, and technology. In doing so, they place technology at the center of performativity; Technology as a co-player.
They explore the politics surrounding the creation and consumption of technology: How is technology developed? For whom and for what purpose is it made? What role do race and gender play?
In terms of content and aesthetics, they explore (de)colonization on and off stage and narratives from non-Western contexts. In a white-dominated society, the question arises not only of representation but also of the foundations and points of reference for performers, who are all too often trapped in the Western tradition.
