Between the Inner and the Self
Alicia Roman & Hilkka Geyssel
3 July 2026 19:00 – 5 July 2026 19:00
What lives in the quiet space between who we are and who we are becoming? Between the Inner and the Self brings together the work of Alicia and Hiski in a dialogue that explores the emotional worlds we carry within us. Through painting, both artists reflect on introspection, self-esteem, and the ongoing search for a more authentic self — one that exists beyond judgment, expectation and boundaries.
Although separated by four decades in age, these two former atelier colleagues come together in a shared figurative exhibition. Their works approach this theme from different perspectives: through distinct techniques, visual languages, and personal interpretations of the body and its identity.
Between the Inner and the Self is about meeting our unspoken dialogue we each hold within. Visitors are invited to slow down, reflect, and perhaps recognize fragments of their own inner journeys in the works exhibited.

Biography
Alicia Roman & Hilkka Geyssel
Alicia's work explores the fragile border between inner and outer worlds, where identity is not fixed but constantly shifting. Through figurative painting, I focus on moments of emotional transition — the space between who we are, who we hope to become, and who we are learning to accept.
Painting is a slow, introspective process for me — a psychological tool to explore vulnerability, self-transformation, and empowerment. I use warm tones to evoke tenderness and intimacy, and cooler hues to introduce tension, depth, and contrast — both sides that live within us all.
Rather than treating boundaries as fixed limits, I approach them as evolving intimate spaces where light and darkness, strength and fragility, inside and outside coexist, revealing identity as a continuous process of change.
