How do we influence the spaces we live in, and how in turn, do these environments influence us? ‘As we gather’ is an interactive audio-visual installation that explores the interplay between (urban) spaces, sensory environments, and collective creation.

Like the city, the visual and auditory state of this installation is never static. It is changing continuously based on collective interaction by visitors. It reflects the dynamic nature of urban spaces where various non-human and human elements contribute to ongoing narratives within those spaces. The experience of the installation is tactile, audial, and visual; through tactile interaction, visitors participate and influence the aural and visual appearance of the piece. The physical installation consists of multiple curtain-like objects which hang from a ceiling. These pieces of fabric together spatially represent an urban space, which creates a place for citizens/visitors to come together, interact and reflect.

The state of the soundscape and visual appearance of the installation influences how people move through the space it is in. Whether it is loud, quiet, chaotic, harmonious, or completely silent - the collectively composed sound influences the behavior of the people within.

This installation is an analogy for the relationship between us, the city, and the influences of the sounds we collectively produce. It encourages participation and collaboration between visitors, creating a sense of togetherness and shared creation.
