Luca Vecoli's photo series “Human Eclipse” comprises eight large-format photographs that explore the theme of AI and humans. The development of computer science seems to have reached a point where the traditional boundary between soul and body can be overcome by machines that are capable of performing processes that were previously considered exclusively human. Language, which for millennia has been considered the essential characteristic of the human mind, is now controlled by artificial intelligence to perform lightning-fast logical operations that lead to results that open up previously unimagined operational horizons.
On closer inspection, however, machines capable of these processes are in no way comparable to human bodies. From this perspective, the boundary between nature and culture appears insurmountable, leading once again to the separation of soul and body. Luca Vecoli's visual research shows how computer parts, consisting of specific components that can be isolated in time and space, stand in stark contrast to the physical characteristics of the biological human body.
